An Internet service provider is filling in its wireless broadband network.

Grand Rapids-based Iserv said last month that it has installed broadband equipment on a new water tower in Kentwood, at 3411 Patterson Ave. SE, allowing it to serve businesses in the area with wireless broadband.

Iserv said the pinpoint network expansion, under an “exclusive arrangement with the city of Grand Rapids,” will give area businesses “a true high-speed wireless broadband option.”

“This is a pretty underserved area as far as high-end broadband goes,” said Jeff Potter, Iserv director of business development. “There are other wireless services here — 3G and 4G — but those all have data caps. You can get fiber-like speeds over this wireless connection.”

Iserv is also planning “many” network projects to extend its reach in West Michigan.

As more businesses turn to cloud computing, people often want a landline connection, backed up by a wireless connection, Potter said. Iserv is looking to develop both.
