Food distributor picks store-brand consultant
A food distributor is partnering with a global retail consultancy to create and merchandise a variety of store-brand products.
Grand Rapids-based SpartanNash said last week that it is collaborating with Stamford, Conn.-based Daymon Worldwide.
The private-brand products will be sold in 44 states through SpartanNash's 172 retail stores and more than 1,900 independent retailers.
The products will be sold under brand names such as Our Family, Spartan, Spartan Fresh Selections, Nash Brothers Trading Company, TopCare and other brands.
The collaboration extends a relationship that began in 2004 when the former Spartan Stores selected Daymon Worldwide as its private-brand consultant.
Following the Spartan merger with Nash Finch last year, SpartanNash re-opened the competition for its business, and Daymon won the work.
Under the agreement, SpartanNash said retail consultants from Daymon Worldwide will collaborate with SpartanNash to help drive stronger store-brand performance and variety for independent retailers, corporate stores and military segments.
Daymon Worldwide will apply its retail experience — including sourcing, design, logistics, trends and merchandising — to SpartanNash's private brands.

Paul added that the partnership helps position SpartanNash as a “global purchaser of private-label products."
