Cosmetics chain freshens up market
A U.K.-based handmade cosmetics and beauty chain is entering the market next month.
Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics, based in Poole, England, is in the process of renovating a 944-square-foot space in Woodland Mall in Grand Rapids, with plans to open a store there by late April.
The store will be Lush’s first West Michigan location, said Erin Brady, a Lush spokesperson.
The chain operates four other stores in the state: Ann Arbor, Novi, Troy and Clinton Township.
“We’ve been doing really well in our Michigan cities, so this is a natural progression,” Brady said. “We have a good relationship with the mall property already. We’ve been looking to expand to the other side of the state for a while, and Grand Rapids is the second-largest city in the state.”
Lush hires about 15-20 employees per store.
Lush sells several types of beauty products: face, hair, body, bath and perfume.
The chain makes its products by hand, “using little or no preservatives or packaging” and “only vegetarian ingredients,” according to its Facebook page.
Lush, founded in 1995, serves more than 850 shops in more than 50 countries.
