Final Five hockey teams face-off
Although the Grand Rapids Griffins are out of town, there will still be hockey at Van Andel Arena this weekend.
The Western Collegiate Hockey Association hosts its Final Five championship today and tomorrow downtown, which includes Ferris State University, the fourth-ranked team in the nation.
Led by goalie C.J. Motte, a Hobey Baker Award Finalist as one of the nation’s top skaters, Ferris State seeks the Broadmoor Trophy — and an automatic birth to the NCAA Tournament.
Ferris State takes on Alaska Anchorage at 7:07 p.m. today, following the Bowling Green-Minnesota State game this afternoon.
The winners of the two semi-final games will compete for the tournament’s trophy at 7 p.m. tomorrow.
Tonight’s game is a Van Andel Institute Purple Community game, which raises money and awareness for research on cancer and neurodegenerative diseases.
Three-game ticket packages are available for $50 and $95, semi-final game tickets are $18 and $35 apiece and championship game tickets are $25 and $40.
The games will be televised on FOX Sports Detroit.
The association's Final Five will return to Grand Rapids in 2016, after a year at the Xcel Energy Center in Minnesota.
