A franchisee is building a café-style McDonald’s in the area that will create up to 60 jobs by this summer.

Milagro Six, owned by Tony Castillo, broke ground this week on the 4,000-square-foot restaurant in Wyoming, at 1115 Chicago Drive SW.

Castillo owns three McDonald’s in the Holland area and has been a McDonald’s owner for more than 22 years.

Caledonia-based Newhof Construction Company is building the restaurant, and McDonald’s is the architect on the project.

The restaurant will be the sixth McDonald’s in Wyoming and the only contemporary, café-like design in the city.

Wyoming Mayor Jack Poll and members of the West Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Hispanic Center of Western Michigan joined Castillo at the groundbreaking.

Castillo was recently named the Hispanic Business Person of the Year by the West Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

“This site fits very well into Tony's very successful business model, and we anticipate the development will benefit the city and the neighborhood,” said Curtis Holt, Wyoming city manager.

Nearly 90 percent of the 14,000 McDonald's restaurants in the U.S. are independently owned and operated by franchisees.
