Dealer drives east for acquisition
A local car dealer has acquired a Buick and GMC dealership in one of the engines of the state's automotive industry.
The General Motors dealer Todd Wenzel Automotive said this week that it has purchased Jim Waldron Buick GMC of Davison in the Flint market, at 1146 S. State Rd.
The dealership will undergo a re-branding, which includes being re-named Todd Wenzel Buick GMC of Davison and renovations of the space.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to serve the Davison and greater Flint communities,” said Todd Wenzel, owner, Todd Wenzel Automotive. “We look forward to maintaining the excellent reputation the Waldrons have built.
“It’s been rewarding to witness and be a small part of the resurgence of the West Michigan economy — and it will be rewarding to be a part of the amazing comeback from an area where selling cars and trucks began.”
The Davison dealership is the company’s third Michigan dealership and second Buick and GMC dealership.
Wenzel, a Wyoming native, operates Todd Wenzel Buick GMC in Grand Rapids and Todd Wenzel Chevrolet in Hudsonville. Both dealerships were re-modeled in 2010.
The Waldron’s dealership has been family owned and Davison based since it was founded 27 years ago, said Jim Waldron, general manager. The business moved to its State Road location about 16 years ago.
The dealership’s 100 employees should be retained, Waldron said.
Waldron said the acquisition will improve the Davison dealership’s local impact, because it will provide it with a more modern, updated facility, with technology upgrades, bathroom upgrades and facility flow.
He did not know what firms would work on the project, saying those details were not finalized yet.
Waldron added that he’s excited about the acquisition and respects Wenzel’s integrity and perspective as a businessman.
“He feels that this is a good, emerging market,” Waldron said. “There’s good opportunity. It’s a good community — has as strong GM base."
