Meijer partners with vision-center chain
Meijer has decided to become exclusive with a national eye care retailer — as part of its strategy to be a one-stop shop for health care services.
Grand Rapids-based Meijer said Monday that U.S. Vision, the nation’s sixth-largest optical retailer, will be Meijer’s exclusive vision center for the Midwest chain.
U.S. Vision in Glendora, N.J.began its partnership with Meijer in 2011 and operates in 50 Meijer stores in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois and Indiana.
U.S. Vision will add 19 centers to Meijer stores by the end of this year.
The vision centers will all be re-named Meijer Optical by May.
The centers offer on-site optometrists, frames, lenses, sunglasses, readers and accessories.
Meijer said most vision care plans are accepted at the center.
"As a family focused company, Meijer believes in providing our customers with opportunities to address their health care needs in one stop," said Nat Love, Meijer Drug Store vice president.
Love said the centers will “round out” Meijer’s health care services to “meet our customers' needs."
The 204-store chain features pharmacies, health clinics and a free-medication program.
"We are very excited about the partnership between Meijer and U.S. Vision," said George Gorman, president and COO of U.S. Vision.
Gorman added that U.S. Vision will deliver the level of service that “the Meijer shopper has come to expect."
