A dialysis company with German roots is building a 9,300-square-foot clinic with a local contractor.

Fresenius Medical Care North America, a division of Fresenius Medical Care in Bad Homburg, Germany, has tapped Grand Rapids-based CD Barnes Construction to build the clinic in Grand Rapids, at 4340 Callender Drive SE, the contractor said last month.

Construction is slated to take about three months, and the clinic should be able to open its doors by August, said Jill Monte, director of business development, CD Barnes Construction.

Christopher Kidd & Associates in Menomonee Falls, Wis. will oversee the project’s design.

Fresenius Medical Care

Fresenius Medical Care is a global provider of products and services for people undergoing dialysis due to chronic kidney failure, a condition that affects more than 2.5 million people worldwide, according to its website.

Fresenius Medical Care North America operates about 2,100 dialysis facilities, including about 75 clinics in Michigan.

Build out

CD Barnes Construction began work last week to renovate the mostly empty one-story space being leased by Fresenius, Monte said.

The Fresenius clinic will fill at least 80 percent of the building and feature 16 dialysis stations, three private treatment rooms, a nurse’s station, an office space, a conference room and a staff lounge and locker area.

The building’s remaining space belongs to the floral shop Brew’s Creations in Floral.

“Fresenius Medical Care has an outstanding reputation for quality patient care,” said Todd Oosting, executive vice president, CD Barnes Construction. “We look forward to providing them with a building in which to provide their life-saving services.”
