Grand Rapids ranks No. 2 in US for 'raising a family'
When it comes to raising a family, the Grand Rapids market is the place to live.
Grand Rapids ranks No. 2 in the ranking of “America’s Best Cities for Raising a Family” posted this week by Forbes.
The metro’s ranking is based on a set of criteria used by Forbes to measure family friendliness across the country: median household income, cost of living, housing affordability, percentage of homeowners, crime rate, local school quality and average commuting delays.
The median household income in Grand Rapids from 2008 to 2012 was $39,070, while No. 1-ranked Raleigh, N.C. had a median household income of $53,699 during the same period.
Forbes highlights that the Grand Rapids market enjoys a low cost of living and 77 percent of residents own their homes, the highest rate in the country.
