Change Ups: CU Answers appoints COO

Geoff Johnson has been appointed CU Answers Inc.’s chief operations officer. The new position expands the current group of officers to four. Johnson previously served as CU Answers’ executive vice president of client interactions since joining the firm in 2005. CU Answers is a 100 percent credit union owned cooperative CUSO representing 1.5 million members and $12.6 billion in credit union assets.

Blake W. Krueger, chairman, CEO and president of Wolverine World Wide Inc., served as Davenport University’s 2014 commencement speaker April 27 at Van Andel Arena.

Arbor Day Foundation has named Calvin College a Tree Campus USA, a program honoring colleges and universities for effective campus forest management and for engaging staff and students in conservation goals.

Grand Rapids Community College professor Paul Chardoul has been named 2014 Emeritus Faculty.

GRCC announced nursing student Susan Murphy has received its Arthur Andrews Award, which goes to the Delta Pi Alpha student with the highest cumulative grade-point average and the greatest number of honor points.

Bryan P. Linn, relationship manager at CapTrust Financial Advisors in Holland, has obtained the Certified Investment Management Analystcertification.

David M. Muilenberg of Ada again has qualified for the Top of the Table Million Dollar Round Table – The Premier Association of Financial Professionals. Muilenberg is a 31-year MDRT member with nine Top of the Table and five Court of the Table honors.

Financial advisor Matthew Lehman of Discovery Financial LLC has received Accredited Investment Fiduciary designation, enabling him to give fiduciary advice to retirement plan trustees and employers.

FOUNDATIONS

Battle Creek’s W.K. Kellogg Foundation announced it has given $13.7 million to 30 organizations that develop and implement transformative family engagement programs in early childhood education.

GRANTS

D.A. Blodgett-St. John’s announced it has received a $5,000 youth grant from Grand Rapids Community Foundation. The grant will be used to assist the Sisters in Support Program, which matches young mothers with a female mentor.

Grand Rapids Public Museum is the recipient of a $50,000 educational grant from the DTE Energy Foundation to help fund its IMMERSE program, a collaboration between the museum and West Michigan schools to help students become problem solvers, communicators and innovators via the museum’s collections and exhibitions.

HEALTH

Bronson Methodist Hospital has attained recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program.

Planned Parenthood of West and Northern Michigan announced the successful completion of its capital campaign, Standing Tall, having raised more than $4 million.

Spectrum Health was named one of the nation’s 15 Top Health Systems by Truven Health Analytics, part of its 100 Top Hospitals program. Spectrum Health is the only health system in Michigan to be recognized with this distinction in 2014.

The Detroit Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists has named Michigan Radio reporter Lindsey Smith Young Journalist of the Year. Based in Grand Rapids, Smith is Michigan Radio’s West Michigan reporter and has worked at the station since 2010.

WZZM TV 13 is the recipient of three regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for the second year in a row.

American Legion Furniture City Post No. 258 has selected Lt. David Pyle as 2014 Grand Rapids Fire Department Firefighter of the Year. Pyle is the 45th GRFD member to receive the award.

Meijer State Games of Michigan announced synchronized swimming and triathlon will be added to the upcoming 2014 Summer Games June 20-22, for a total of 40 sports; also, softball has been expanded to include a co-ed division.
