IT company scales into new space
A local IT company is online at its new space after doubling its head count over the last year.
Optio Data, an IT reseller, said last month that it has moved into a 35,000-square-foot space in Ada, at 390 Spaulding Ave. SE.
The company had operated out of Grand Rapids, at 5555 Corporate Exchange Ct.
The move will help the company be more involved in the community, said Jeff Stevens, executive vice president, Optio Data.
“I love that we’re in more of a residential aspect of the community. We plan to invest more in charity," Stevens said. "As an organization, we’re very serious about providing technology solutions to the marketplace, but we’re a company that likes to have fun along the way.”
The space will serve as the company’s headquarters and Proof of Concept Center, where customers can demonstrate equipment and IT environments.
Optio Data is a premier partner of VMware, a maker of virtualization software, and was recently named VMware’s Rising Star Partner of the Year.
Option Data is also ranked as one of Dell Premier’s top 10 partners in the U.S.
“From the beginning, we set out to design our environment and POC Center to showcase Dell’s evolution to an enterprise technology company,” Stevens said.
Stevens added that the company is, for instance, set up to allow customers to see the real-time differences between VMWare and Microsoft environments.
Optio — which is derived from the title of a Roman soldier who served as second in command to a centurion — originally formed in 2013, Stevens said.
“With our hiring in the past 12 months, our staff has essentially doubled from where we were last year,” Stevens said. “Our goal is take where our business is now and double it in the next five years.”
The single-story building, which previously housed First American Title, is still in the process of being renovated by Grand Rapids-based Rockford Construction.
The renovation of 15,000 square feet of office space is complete, and a 20,000-square-foot space for the company’s integration and logistics facility should be completed in June, Stevens said.
