Of the 101 best companies to work for in West Michigan this year, there are now 11 Elite winners — and one Best of the Best.

The Best of the Best award at the 12th annual West Michigan’s 101 Best Companies to Work For event today went to Southwest Michigan First in Kalamazoo, an economic development nonprofit.

Southwest Michigan First was given the award at the annual awards event in Hudsonville at The Pinnacle Center.

The event is produced by the Michigan Business & Professional Association.

Southwest Michigan First has created a culture where each person is a leader, said Heather Baker, vice president of internal communications, Southwest Michigan First.

“Our culture is built on the fact that we’re leaders, not managers,” Baker said. “We’re all very proud to work there, and we’re very proud to accept this award.”

Eleven elite winners were also named by category, based on overall high scores.

“It takes dedication and a strong commitment to one’s employees to be named an Elite winner,” said Jennifer Kluge, president, MBPA. “This year’s recipients keep innovative human resource initiatives at the forefront and make it a priority to consider their workforce as an essential aspect in their company success.”
