Experience Grand Rapids has booked a three-day convention that’s expected to generate more than $2.7 million in sales in Kent County.

The National Association of Elevator Contractors will hold its annual convention in Grand Rapids from Sept. 17-19 in 2019.

More than 2,500 attendees are expected to attend the convention. Attendees will book 3,688 room nights in Kent County during that time.

“Perfect fit”

Convention organizers visited Grand Rapids last year and were quickly convinced it would make a great location for the organization’s 70th anniversary convention.

The association was “pleased to find facilities that were a perfect fit for our convention and exposition needs,” said Teresa Witham, executive director, National Association of Elevator Contractors. “The downtown microbreweries added to the ambiance and entrepreneurial spirit of the city. We found the city to be clean, and we felt very safe walking around.”

The association’s convention is “another high-profile national convention for Grand Rapids that came about after several years of work between our organization and the association,” said Doug Small, president, Experience Grand Rapids.

The National Association of Elevator Contractors in Conyers, Ga. is comprised of 643 members, including contractors, associate contractors and suppliers. Part of the association's mission is to promote safe and reliable elevators, escalators and short-range transportation.
