Change Ups: FireKeepers Casino completes bar renovation

FireKeepers Casino Hotel in Battle Creek has completed its first renovation since the hotel and event center were added in December 2012. The redesigned Kabaret bar features a new stage for acoustic acts, an open wall setting and a newly designed bar that allows for 360-degree service. The Kabaret is open daily 7 a.m.-1:30 a.m. with entertainment on Fridays and Saturdays from 7-11 p.m. FireKeepers is owned and operated by the Nottawaseppi Huron band of the Potawatomi.

Allegra Marketing, Print and Mail was honored by Alliance Franchise Brands with its 2013 Sales Excellence Award. The top 10 percent in the international network of marketing and print service providers earn the recognition. The firm also has earned Forest Stewardship Council’s Chain-of-Custody certification, demonstrating its commitment to responsible forest management.

Extra Credit Projects is the recipient of two National Telly Awards for broadcast work for Zondervan/HarperCollins Publishers and Michigan State University College of Human Medicine.

Kent County Administrator Daryl Delabbio is the recipient of Wayne State University’s MPA Program Distinguished Alumni Award.

The Michigan Association for Justice honored George T. Sinas with the 2014 Champion of Justice Award for his leadership in protecting the Michigan Automobile No-Fault Law and victims’ rights. Sinas is a partner with Sinas Dramis Law Firm.

Custer announced the promotion of Lisa Hull to the newly created position of vice president of customer experience. As part of a streamlined management structure, Hull, Todd Custer, vice president of sales and integration, and Gregg Richardson, chief financial officer, will report to Custer President Dave Custer.

EDUCATION

Calvin College kinesiology professor Julie Walton is the 22nd recipient of the college’s Presidential Award for Exemplary Teaching, the highest distinction Calvin bestows on a faculty member.

Davenport University is among 14 colleges and universities selected to participate in the Lumina Foundation-funded Council for Adult and Experiential Learning Competency Based Education Jumpstart program, an initiative that will help higher education institutions offer competency-based education degree programs.

GRANTS

The Ottawa County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority approved its first brownfield redevelopment assessment project as a part of its $400,000 grant from the Environmental Protection Agency’s Brownfields Program. The county will work with the city of Holland to conduct a Phase I environmental site assessment on a site in the South Shore Village Shopping District.

HEALTH

Metro Health Hospital has appointed Svetlana Dembitskaya chief operating officer.

INSURANCE

Hanover Insurance Group has honored Berends Hendricks Stuit with an appointment to its President’s Club, an elite group of independent insurance agents and brokers from across the country.

Lake Michigan Insurance Agency announced it has merged with Alpha Agency. Alpha president/owner Carlo Vanin joins LMIA as an account executive who will maintain oversight of his existing clients.
