It takes more than art to make a successful independent film.

Anyone interested in learning the trade secrets of what it takes to score rave critical reviews on the film festival circuit can attend tonight’s event by the West Michigan Film Video Alliance — How to Select and Win Film Festivals. It's part of the alliance’s monthly 4Wall Events, which cover a range of film industry topics.

The event will be at 6:30 p.m. at Wealthy Theatre in Grand Rapids, at 1130 Wealthy St. SE.

Several leaders in the regional film industry will be part of the event: Art Prize executive director Christian Gaines; Joel Potrykus, director of the indie films “Ape” and “Buzzard,” which the alliance said both received good reviews while on their international film festival tours; and Anthony Griffin, founder of UnSafe Film Office, which has produced and photographed a number of feature-length projects in West Michigan.

Chris Randall, writer, director and producer of the film “America’s Most Haunted,” will serve as the event’s moderator.

Tickets to the event are $5.
