A downtown rescue shelter is expanding its ministry by opening a thrift store.

Upscale thrift

Guiding Light Mission in Grand Rapids is opening its Upscale Thrift Store at noon tomorrow in Kentwood , at 1435 60th St. SE.

The 7,500-square-foot thrift store will offer delivery and sell a variety of items: hardware, furniture, dishes, sporting goods, jewelry and more.

The thrift store will create an outlet for donors with scarce financial resources to make contributions that eventually support the ministry financially, said Stuart Ray, executive director, Guiding Light Mission.

Reach

Ray added that the shelter has been looking forward to expanding its ministry beyond downtown’s Heartside neighborhood.

“We are very excited for this opportunity, not only for our organization, but for those involved and impacted as well,” Ray said.

The nonprofit’s thrift store is being opened through its partnership with Holland Rescue Mission, a similar nonprofit in Holland.
