A minor league basketball team is filling a high-profile vacancy downtown.

The city’s new NBA Development League team, the Grand Rapids Drive, said today that they will move into a retail space in Grand Rapids this month in MoDiv, at the corner of Monore Center and Division Avenue.

The storefront will serve as a merchandise outlet and ticket window for the team that starts play in November. The Drive are the Detroit Pistons' D-League team.

Corner windows

The Drive’s space will be the corner spot, which was recently filled by Haworth | Interphase.

“Having a retail storefront in downtown Grand Rapids will help build excitement for the Drive,” said Steve Jbara, president, Grand Rapids Drive. “Monroe Center offers the team and its merchandise great exposure, a chance to help connect with the community.”

Jbara and the Drive worked with Rockford Development in Grand Rapids to find the space in the retail incubator.

Rockford Development is the owner and property management company of the space.

“We think the NBA D-League is a perfect tenant for MoDiv,” said Mike Mraz, partner, Rockford Development. “Especially in the corner spot — seen from Division, Fulton and Monroe Center — the space will serve the team very well."
