Church plans expansion on East Beltline
One of the largest churches in Grand Rapids is planning to expand.
Calvary Church plans a significant expansion and renovation of its main building, as well as the addition of a maintenance building and 157 parking spaces, at 707 East Beltline Ave. NE, according to plans provided by the city of Grand Rapids Planning Commission.
The planned addition to the Christian church’s main building would be 38,310 square feet.
The main level of the expansion would feature a community gathering area, kitchen, access to a prayer garden and “enlarged circulation around the existing sanctuary" — which would be expanded to add 300 seats, the plans say.
The lower level of the expansion would feature a relocated children’s ministry area, circulation corridors, bathrooms and support spaces.
Calvary Church also plans to renovate the existing building, allowing it to “accommodate a future two-story office structure.”
On the west side of its campus, the church would add a 6,656-square-foot maintenance building.
Calvary Church’s plan is on the agenda for the planning commission meeting today, said Kristin Turkelson, planning supervisor, city of Grand Rapids.
A Calvary Church spokesperson could not be reached for comment.
