Change Ups: LHN donates to Feeding America WM

Lakeshore Health Network has donated $14,200 to Feeding America West Michigan to support its mobile food pantry trucks used to feed the hungry in the Muskegon area. The LHN organization and its members have volunteered for the program for the past decade. The team initially started raising money to sponsor and staff food trucks on a quarterly basis, but has transitioned to a monthly initiative.

AWARDS

Continental Dairy of Coopersville is the recipient of Michigan Agriculture and Rural Development’s Michigan Agriculture Exporter of the Year Award.

Mary Freund Wilson, a Metro Health nurse practitioner, has been awarded the American Diabetes Association’s 2014 Healthcare Champion Award, based on her long-time advocacy for people with diabetes, which includes serving as a member of the West Michigan Glycemic Collaborative.

Plante Moran was named by the Accounting MOVE Project as a 2014 Best Public Accounting Firm for Women. The project surveyed 50 firms using benchmarks to evaluate the retention of women leaders in public accounting and their advancement to partnership.

Lisa Kreza has joined Lake Michigan Credit Union as a mortgage loan originator in its new Farmington Hills branch.

EDUCATION

Deborah Bambini, associate professor of nursing at Grand Valley State University, was inducted into the National League of Nursing’s Academy of Nursing Education as a fellow. She joins the academy's 169 fellows representing nursing schools and programs throughout the U.S.

Joel Westa, superintendent of NorthPointe Christian Schools, has been selected by the Van Lunen Center for Executive Management in Christian Schools at Calvin College for a 2014-2015 fellowship, designed for school heads who seek professional development in their work as administrators of faith-based schools.

Jacobus Donders, chief psychologist at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital, has received a subspecialty certification in pediatric clinical neuropsychology from the American Board of Professional Psychology. 

Kent County Health Department has joined forces with six other local health departments and community organizing groups to launch Michigan Power to Thrive, a network dedicated to creating health equity in Michigan communities.

Gov. Rick Synder announced the appointment of Meg Derrer, of Grand Rapids, to the Michigan Women’s Commission.
