A national chain of adult day care centers is expanding its presence in the area by building a location at a popular shopping center.

SarahCare is building a location in Grand Rapids in the Northridge Center, at 2211 East Beltline Ave. NE, just north of Knapp Street NE.

Construction is expected to begin soon on the 8,378-square-foot space and take about nine weeks, according to CD Barnes Construction in Grand Rapids, the project’s contractor.

The chain operates Michigan locations in Wyoming and Sterling Heights.

SarahCare works with seniors who have memory impairment, chronic impairment, depression and Parkinson’s disease.

The chain’s centers serve as an alternative to residential care and assisted living.

CD Barnes Construction said the center will feature a range of spaces: an activity room, dining room, living room, kitchen, food service area, exercise room, beauty salon, office space and a conference room.

SarahCare plans to use the East Beltline location to offer free caregiver support groups.

“We look forward to providing a great space for them to fulfill their mission,” said Todd Oosting, executive president, CD Barnes Construction.
