The world’s largest art prize has named its real estate sponsor for 2014.

CWD Real Estate Investment in Grand Rapids, a developer and property management firm, said yesterday that it has signed on to host several ArtPrize events this year.

CWD will allow ArtPrize to use its historic Ledyard Building as the competition's “hospitality center” in downtown Grand Rapids, at 125 Ottawa Ave. NW.

The site will host several key ArtPrize events:

- Volunteer Kick-Off Party: Aug. 21, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

- The Sponsor Event, Sept. 19, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

- Artist Party Open House, Sept. 21, from 7-10 p.m.

“We’re glad to have them hosted in such an architecturally and historically significant building in the heart of downtown Grand Rapids,” said Christian Gaines, ArtPrize’s executive director.

Sam Cummings, managing partner at CWD, said that the firm’s “amped up participation in ArtPrize falls in line with our commitment to make downtown Grand Rapids a lively and vibrant destination for residents and visitors.”

“We’re excited to get involved in the festivities surrounding ArtPrize by providing strategic downtown locations to officials, sponsors, guests and volunteers,” Cummings said.

The firm said it will also use its Fifty Monroe Building and PNC Bank Building, at 171 Monroe Ave. NW, as art venues for about 26 artists.
