Local attorney heads Defense Research Institute
Edward P. Perdue, an attorney with Dickinson Wright’s Grand Rapids office, will begin his three-year term following the conclusion of the 2014 DRI annual meeting being held in San Francisco in October.
DRI is the nation’s leading organization of defense attorneys and in-house counsel.
Perdue will oversee DRI’s central region, which includes Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia.
“This new position is an enormous honor,” Perdue said. “To be elected to lead one of the DRI’s regions is an indication that you have gained the trust and respect of the highest caliber of defense attorneys.”
Perdue said his duties include arranging for the accommodations and programming at the annual Central Region meeting, coordinating regional membership initiatives, and hosting a leadership dinner at the DRI annual meeting.
Perdue’s history with DRI
Perdue is a former decorated Marine Corps officer who served with distinction in the Persian Gulf War. He is the founder and acting president of the Grand Rapids Veterans Bar Association and the DRI’s Veterans Network.
He also is a former elected member of the Grand Rapids Bar Association board of trustees and serves as the state of Michigan DRI representative to the Michigan Defense Trial Counsel.
At Dickinson Wright, Perdue focuses his practice on the areas of commercial and business litigation, automotive litigation, class actions, insurance and ERISA litigation, and real estate.
He received his bachelor’s degree from Villanova University and his law degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School.
Membership in DRI provides access to resources and tools for attorneys who strive to provide high-quality, balanced and excellent service to their clients and corporations.
DRI has served the defense bar for more than 50 years and focuses on five main goals: education, justice, balance, economics and professionalism.
It is host to 30 substantive committees whose focus is to develop ongoing and critical dialogue about areas of practice.
