A statewide awards program that celebrates organizations that strive to develop a culture of health and wellness has recognized employers across West Michigan.

Awards event

The winners of the 2014 Best and Brightest in Wellness in Michigan were named last week, and there will be a symposium and awards gala on to honor the winners on Oct. 2 in Dearborn at The Henry, beginning at 8 a.m.

The awards event kicks off with a healthy breakfast, health screenings and an interactive morning wake-up workout or meditation session.

The event will highlight organizations that emphasize healthy living and feature educational meetings on the best practices in wellness.

The event is co-presented by the Michigan Business & Professional Association, Michigan Food and Beverage Association, Wellco and Corp! magazine.

Evaluation process

The Best and Brightest in Wellness celebrates organizations that create healthy business cultures and implement wellness programs and policies that impact employees and their surrounding communities in a positive manner.

Winners were nominated by individuals and then contacted to complete the WellCompanies assessment developed by Wellco in Royal Oak, a wellness firm.

Organizations were evaluated in several categories: environment, leadership, awareness and motivation, policies, assessment and intervention, incentives and integration, measurement and health care cost.
