After opening its first location just a few weeks ago, a Grand Rapids couple is ready to start work on its second West Michigan eatery.

Saladworks, which opened downtown in August, will open a second location in an out-lot at Centerpointe Mall. The new out-lot is currently being built and was fully leased prior to construction.

Tim and Julie Calderone, who own the Saladworks franchises in West Michigan, said they plan to invest nearly $300,000 into the location, creating up to 30 jobs. Mark Ansara of Colliers International West Michigan is their agent handling the real estate transaction.

“Within the area, there is an extreme need for additional food options,”Ansara said. “The addition of this space and the varied tenant mix will be a great help for both customers and employees in this area, providing different dining options for patrons of all appetites.”

Saladworks will reside in the 2,100-square-foot end cap of the building and have visibility from both the Centerpointe parking lots and 28th Street SE.

There are more than 100 Saladworks location across the nation, offering fresh-tossed salads made-to-order.

Between the two new Saladworks restaurants, nearly 50 jobs will be created. The Calderones signed a multi-store deal with the Saladworks headquarters and also plan to open a third Saladworks location in Grand Rapids.

“The growth of the salad category and the continued need for healthier eating options made our decision to bring the Saladworks franchise to Grand Rapids an easy one,”said Tim Calderone. “The response to our first location has been overwhelmingly positive, so we are excited to see the second location at the Centerpointe Mall come to fruition.”

The Calderones also opened Kilwin’s Chocolates & Ice Cream in McKay Tower in 2012.
