When regional leaders convene Sunday and Monday for the 2014 West Michigan Policy Forum, much of the talk will center on workforce talent.

But not all of it.

The sold-out conference begins with an opening session on how “Michigan Can be a Start Up State” at 5 p.m. Sunday in the International Ballroom of the JW Marriott downtown.

Rick DeVos, founder of Start Garden and ArtPrize, will make some opening remarks and introduce Brad Feld — founder of The Foundry Group in Boulder, Colo. and author of "Start Up Communities" — who will join the discussion via Skype.

Monday’s speakers will include economist Bob Genetski, Windquest Group CEO Dick DeVos, Amway President Doug DeVos, Gov. Rick Snyder, Fox News’ Charles Krauthammer, Haworth President Franco Bianchi, Herman Miller President Brian Walker, Wolverine Worldwide CEO and President Blake Krueger, Cascade Engineering CEO Fred Keller and several others.

Topics of discussion will include term-limit modifications, transportation and infrastructure, workforce talent, understanding poverty and Michigan’s future.

West Michigan Policy Forum, which was created by the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce in 2008, is a nonprofit tasked with providing leadership, education and a voice for Michigan business to guide the administration and legislature in re-inventing Michigan.
