A longtime steel supplier has a new member of its senior leadership team with experience in starting and streamlining plant operations.

Mill Steel in Grand Rapids said last month that Rob Vella has been promoted to vice president of operations.

Vella joined Mill Steel in 2009 and was previously its corporate operations manager.

Prior to that, he was plant manager at Ohio Pickling & Processing in Toledo, Ohio, a toll processor of flat-rolled steel, which his family partially owns.

“While Rob has led a relatively short career so far, he has built a very strong track record of success at Mill Steel, as well as at his prior manufacturing employers,” said Eric Lambert, SVP, CFO and COO, Mill Steel. “That tenure, combined with the skills, assertiveness and strong work ethic instilled by his family, has proven to be a wonderful backbone for him and Mill Steel to build off of.”

Lambert credited Vella with streamlining operations in all of the company’s processing facilities and serving as an integral part in the planning and successful execution of startup operations at the company's newly acquired facility in Jeffersonville, Ind.

Mill Steel, founded in 1959, is a North American supplier of flat-rolled steel.
