A national health club franchise isn’t done growing in the area.

Planet Fitness, which opened locations in Grandville and Grand Rapids earlier this year, has opened another gym in Grand Rapids, at 4180 Plainfield Ave. NE.

The 21,000-square-foot gym, located in a former Save-A-Lot grocery store, held its grand opening last week.

Dykhouse Construction in Byron Center renovated the space.

The gym

The gym employs about 14-18 people, said Brad Stinson, regional manager, Planet Fitness.

He added that traffic in the Plainfield corridor made it an excellent area for a new gym.

The gym features about 92 pieces of cardio equipment, as well as free weights and strength machines.

Stinson said the club has about 600 members, with room for more.

The gym offers two membership deals similar to its other locations.

Next location

Stinson said the gym’s franchisees also have plans to open another gym in the Grand Rapids area.

“There are future plans to expand the Grand Rapids area,” he said. “It rotates around the retail corridor space.”
