The regional YMCA has just completed a $500,000 investment in one of its branches.

The Visser Family YMCA in Grandville said this week that it has completed a renovation of the building, at 3540 Fairlane Ave. SW.

The project

The renovation was completed by Visser Construction.

No square footage was added to the facility’s footprint, but space was re-allocated.

The project consisted of adding three family lockers, renovating the women’s and men’s locker rooms and opening up the pool area by moving a couple of walls, said Sara DeMann, a spokesperson for the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids.

The project also added 17 fitness machines to the workout area and updated the facility’s heating and cooling systems.

“We want to make sure that all our facilities are meeting the needs of our members and community,” DeMann said. “It was a continuing reinvestment in our facility.”

Visser Family YMCA

The renovation comes about seven years after the Visser Family YMCA started operations.

The center serves about 2,000 members.

“We are grateful to have such supportive individuals and families in our community, helping us press on toward the goal of involving one in five youth, teens and their families in year-round healthy activities,” said Kendall Klingelsmith, executive director, Visser Family YMCA.

Klingelsmith added that the YMCA “gives health and opportunity to those who need it most, but can sometimes least afford it” and “regardless of their ability.”
