A maker of oral care products is planning to expand into southern Europe by acquiring the leading supplier of private label toothbrushes in France.

Kentwood-based Ranir, which has become the largest North American private label supplier of store-brand oral care products, said yesterday that it has acquired Oralys Dental in Beauvais, France.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Oralys is a supplier of private label oral and personal care products.

Southern Europe

The acquisition makes Ranir the largest private label oral care provider in France and positions the company for growth in the European oral care market.

“The addition of Oralys Dental is another significant step in our international strategy aimed at partnering with key retailers to grow both geographically and in our product assortment," said Christine Henisee, CEO, Ranir.

Ranir plans to become the leader in oral care products in the European Union, according to Henisee.

Oralys provides direct access to well-known international retailers and will assist with Ranir's global strategy to expand its established business in northern and western Europe into southern Europe, including France, Italy, Portugal and Spain.

Oralys brand

Oralys will remain a separate company and continue to operate under the Oralys brand — led by Gijsbert Dezaire, EVP and managing director of Europe at Ranir — and the existing Oralys team.

Eric Lassau, the founder of Oralys, will continue to manage operations in the region as southern Europe sales director. He will benefit from the added resources, team and global reach of Ranir.

Ranir, founded in 1979, makes a variety of oral care products: power and manual toothbrushes, teeth whiteners, dental floss and flossers, interdental devices, night protectors and cold sore treatments.

Ranir’s products are sold through stores in more than 40 countries.

Ranir’s local operation includes a 150,000-square-foot plant, with an adjacent 100,000-square-foot warehouse, that produces toothbrushes, dental floss, tooth whiteners and night guards.

Ranir also operates plants in Changshu, China and Vadodara, India.
