A law firm is entering the lakeshore market.

Grand Rapids-based Rhoades McKee said today that it will operate an office in Holland, beginning on Jan. 1.

Long-time partner

Peter Rhoades, son of Rhoades McKee founding partner Dale Rhoades, has been operating The Rhoades Law Office since 1993 in Holland.

The Rhoades Law Office has had an affiliation agreement with Rhoades McKee for 17 years, and the two firms have decided to take the partnership to the next level.

Peter Rhoades is joining Rhoades McKee as a shareholder, and his firm’s office will become Rhoades McKee’s Holland location, at 11377 James St.

The space is undergoing renovations to its interior to accommodate the additional legal services and future staffing needs.

Rhoades said he looks forward to “offering clients the broad array of legal services of a full-service firm.”

“As needs expand, opportunities for growth are presented and with the continued specialization of the profession, we concluded the best way to serve these clients’ interests, as well as future clients’ interests, was to join the firm and establish a lakeshore office location,” Rhoades said.

For the past 20 years, Rhoades has concentrated his practice on representing businesses in litigation and dispute resolution.

He has worked on various types of lending transactions, including loan workouts and restructurings. He has also actively represented clients, including financial institutions, in the ownership, leasing and sale of real property.

Lakeshore presence

The previous affiliate agreement has helped Rhoades McKee establish and service a lakeshore client base, and now the firm will further benefit from having a lakeshore office.

“Our Grand Rapids location has been serving clients throughout West Michigan,” said Paul McCarthy, president, Rhoades McKee. “Offering a Holland location provides convenience and efficiency to our clients.”

Holland is also a growing area Rhoades McKee wants to invest in.

“Holland continues to develop and expand its nationwide appeal,” McCarthy said, citing the city being recognized as an All-America City by the National Civic League and “One of the top five places to retire” by Money magazine.

“Business and development opportunities will only continue to develop, and we are excited to actively engage at the lakeshore.”

McCarthy expects employees will also benefit from having a pair of offices in West Michigan.

“Offices will be available for our Grand Rapids attorneys to work out of the Holland location and vice versa,” McCarthy said. “The construction at the Holland location will also provide us the opportunity to add additional attorneys to the lakeshore location who choose to live and practice at the lakeshore.”

Rhoades McKee offers a range of legal services: estate planning and probate litigation; family law and divorce; real estate and environmental; litigation specialists; and business and corporate.
