L'Oreal names founder one of 10 Women of Worth

The founder of a local nonprofit has been honored by L’Oreal Paris as one of its 10 Women of Worth in the U.S.

Mary Hoodhood, founder and director of Kids’ Food Basket in Grand Rapids, was honored this month at L’Oreal Paris’ 9th-annual Women of Worth event in New York.

Th event by the beauty brand recognizes female leaders in a variety of industries across the U.S. L’Oreal spokeswomen Diane Keaton, Andie MacDowell, Julianne Moore, Eva Longoria and Aimee Mullins presented at the event.

“Mary’s physical limitations as a quadriplegic have never prevented her from contributing to the community. After recovering from her car accident, Mary recalls how determined she was not to let disability define her,” L’Oreal Paris says on its website. “Her situation has inspired and motivated her to do as much as she can for others.”

Hoodhood went through a “rigorous” nomination process performed by L’Oreal Paris and the nonprofit Points of Light in Atlanta.

She will be awarded $10,000.
