A hotel is among one of the best meeting hotels and resorts in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.

Amway Grand Plaza in downtown Grand Rapids is named a Platinum Choice Award winner by Smart Meetings magazine in its December issue, which features the publication’s 11th-annual listing of award winners.

Michigan winners

The Amway Grand Plaza offers “elegant old-world charm set amid the sophistication of today,” according to the Smart Meetings website.

It also points out that the "eco-friendly" hotel is walking distance to museums and DeVos Performance Hall and near the airport.

Several other Michigan properites won the Platinum Choice Award: the Grand Hotel, Grand Traverse Spa and Resort and MGM Grand Detroit.

The Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau also won in the convention and visitor bureau category.

The award

Smart Meetings said this fall that the 192 winners were chosen from thousands of qualified properties and organizations by readers, with additional input from editors and industry experts.

The award recognizes excellence in service and amenities among meeting hotels and resorts.

Winners "set exemplary standards" in a range of categories: ambience, amenities, breadth of resources, facility quality, guest services, meeting space, meeting packages, recreational activities, restaurant and dining facilities and technical support.

“The winners reflect the diversity of destinations and properties available to meet the needs of meeting planners,” said Marin Bright, founder and publisher, Smart Meetings. “These organizations, hotels and resorts exemplify the professional standards expected by event professionals and attendees. We are proud to honor industry leaders that celebrate excellence, innovation, exemplary service and facilities to help make meetings and events extraordinary for planners and attendees.”
