Restaurants serve Cool Brews. Hot Eats.
Restaurants across the area will soon be pairing dishes with local beers during the two-week event Cool Brews. Hot Eats.
More than 50 restaurants and breweries will take part in the event from Monday to Feb. 28.
The third-annual event is produced by Experience Grand Rapids, or EXGR, which is the area’s destination marketing organization.
Food and beer industries
Cool Brews. Hot Eats. has "grown into an event that is not only a benefit for beer lovers, but also the local economy,” said Doug Small, CEO and president, Experience Grand Rapids.
Small added that the area's "beer scene continues to be recognized on a national level," citing its recent "Best Beer Town" designation by readers of USA Today.
He said the event combines the area's beer and dining scenes to give beer and culinary fans a "wonderful experience.”
Near the end of the two-week event will be the Michigan Brewers Guild’s 10th-annual Winter Beer Festival at Fifth Third Ballpark, which features more than 90 Michigan breweries and 800 craft beers.
The festival was extended to two days this year, because of increasing demand, and Saturday’s session sold-out of tickets in less than 30 minutes.
Celebrating local beer
“Grand Rapids is enthusiastic about beer,” said Kate Herron, community development manager, Experience Grand Rapids.
Herron said that EXGR created the event “for those who can’t get a ticket to the Winter Beer Festival or who prefer to be inside and enjoy beer."
"Now everyone can join in on the fun and celebrate local beer, even if they aren’t attending the festival,” Herron said.
For users of the mobile app Untappd, there’s a limited-edition Beer City Badge available from Feb. 16 to March 16 for checking into two Grand Rapids breweries.
