Several West Michigan employers are in a select class of the “World’s Most-Admired Companies.”

Fortune Magazine has named Grand Rapids-based Steelcase, Benton Harbor-based Whirlpool and Kalamazoo-based Stryker to its 2015 “Most-Admired” ranking.

The ranking is based on categories such as innovation, social responsibility, quality of management and quality of products or services.

Steelcase ranks No. 5 in the home equipment and furnishings category, alongside companies such as Tupperware and Leggett & Platt.

"We are honored by this recognition from Fortune,” said Jim Keane, president and CEO, Steelcase. “We feel it is a testament to our employees worldwide and their commitment to innovation and solutions that help unlock human promise.”

Steelcase received a LEED Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for its Innovation Center last year. The company also released several new products, such as the workplace organizational system SOTO II.

Whirlpool ranks No. 1 in the home equipment and furnishing category. It’s the fifth-consecutive year Whirlpool is featured on the annual Fortune ranking.

Whirlpool is “honored to once again be named" to the ranking, said Jeff Fettig, chairman and CEO, Whirlpool.

"Our talented employees around the world create exceptional products that continue to be at the forefront of the industry," Fettig said. "We are proud to see our ongoing social responsibility initiatives recognized, and we are committed to continued success in 2015."

Whirlpool was also named to CR magazine’s “Top 100 Best Corporate Citizens” ranking and was named one of Forbes’ “Most-Reputable Companies.”

Stryker ranks No. 6 in the medical products and equipment category. It ranks No. 4 in last year’s ranking.

The company scored high in the social responsibility and long-term investment criteria.

Other admired companies

The 2015 "Most-Admired" ranking also features Ford Motor Company and General Motors and several other companies that rank at the top of their industries: Boeing, Google, Nike, Coca-Cola, Apple, Procter & Gamble and more.
