First Companies Retina Specialists

First Companies recently completed construction of a 22,000-square-foot building for Retina Specialists of Michigan on Cascade Road in Grand Rapids. The project design incorporates Lean Doctor principles to remove wasted movement, time and resources, ensuring maximum efficiency. The floor plan uses a “hub and spokes” design with a central work area for the doctors and doors that lead into flexible treatment rooms.

Associated Builders and Contractors announced Pioneer Construction’s work on the GVSU Mary Idema Pew Library Learning & Information Commons earned a Pyramid Award in the Institutional $25 million-$100 million category of ABC’s Excellence in Construction Awards.

CSM Group of Kalamazoo announced its partnership with plastics manufacturer Fabri-Kal Corp. on a $50 million, 100,000-square-foot design and manufacturing facility in Burley, Idaho.

EDUCATION

Calvin College was designated by Partners for a Racism Free Community as a Level II Partner for successfully completing the Institutional Challenge to Achieve Racial Equity assessment process.

Hope College announced a partnership with Indiana University Maurer School of Law that establishes the Hope College Law Scholars Program, starting this fall. The three-year J.D. program will reserve two spots for Hope graduating seniors or alumni, and scholarship support equal to at least half the cost of tuition.

Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University announced the appointment of Leslie Bellavance as president, effective July 1. She is currently dean, director of graduate programs and a professor at the School of Art and Design at Alfred University’s New York State College of Ceramics.

Linda Chamberlain was named chair of Frederik Meijer Endowed Honors in Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Grand Valley State University.

Allegan General Hospital and Emergency Physicians Medical Group named Nathan Zziwambazza, M.D., the hospital’s emergency department medical director.

The Kent County Board of Commissioners and Administrator’s Office announced the opening of the Kent County Veterans Services new location at 836 Fuller Ave. NE.

Mercy Health Bladder Clinic director Leslie Wooldridge was named this year’s recipient of the Medical Activist Award by the Women’s Health Foundation.

Physician assistants Alan Colman, John Foss, Tim Gawronski and Ryan Gzym, working with Specialists in Hospital Medicine, Mercy Health Muskegon, are the only certified physician assistants in Michigan to be awarded a specialty credential called a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Hospital Medicine from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

Shoshanna Steele, guest service representative of the Hampton Inn of Holland, has won the Spirit of Hampton Award, the highest individual honor in the chain of more than 2,000 hotels.

Betten Chevrolet Cadillac GMC in Muskegon was recognized by Chevrolet as an Elite Leader. Betten Honda in Muskegon received Honda’s President’s Award for exceptional performance in 2014. The dealership also received the Best Year Ever Award in new car sales and certified pre-owned sales.

Computing Source has enhanced its electronic discovery services by becoming a Relativity Premium Hosting Partner.
