Craft spirit makers from the region took home medals from a major national competition in Louisville, Ky.

New Holland Artisan Spirits, a brand of New Holland Brewing Co., said yesterday that it took home six medals, including a Best of Category, at the annual Judging of American Craft Spirits by the American Distilling Institute, or ADI.

“Our distilling team continues to knock it out of the park, creating craft spirits that inspire the palates of our customers and win over industry’s finest — on a daily basis,” said Brett VanderKamp, co-founder and president, New Holland Brewing Co.

Grand Traverse Distillery, which has a tasting room in the Downtown Market, took home a silver medal and Best of Category for its Ole George 100% Rye Whiskey.

Coppercraft Distillery in Holland also took home an award last week, winning bronze in the rum category for its Coppercraft Rum.

The top winner for New Holland was its Freshwater Superior Rum, which took home Best of Category in the Certified Craft Blended Rum category. A small release of Freshwater Superior Rum will be available in Michigan later this month.

New Holland’s Zeppelin Bend Single Malt Whiskey took home silver in the three-to-five year malt whiskey category.

New Holland also won four bronzes: in contemporary rectified gin, barrel-aged rectified gin, citrus liqueur and flavored whiskey, with the distillery’s Knickerbock Gin, Knickerbocker Barrel Gin, Clockwork Orange Liqueur and Hatter Royale and Hopped Whiskey winning.

"We deeply respect the ADI and their blind-judging process," said Rich Blair, national spirits sales manager, New Holland Artistan Sprits. "It’s exciting and humbling to see our spirits get such tremendous recognition amongst such great company."
