Change Ups: O-A-K to erect school project

Owen-Ames-Kimball Co. of Kalamazoo has been hired to complete a $14 million bond project for Paw Paw Public Schools. O-A-K has been selected as construction manager for the project, with architectural partner, Kingscott Associates. The project will include district-wide remodeling, secure entry vestibules, instructional technology, additional technology infrastructure and instructional equipment. Construction will begin this month and is scheduled for completion in September 2017.

ACCOUNTING

Helmholdt+Co. LLP announced the promotion of Michael M. Kornoely to principal.

ARTS

Grand Rapids Art Museum announced the addition of Juliana Nahas-Viilo, membership manager.

Kent District Library director Lance Werner was appointed to the advisory board for the School of Library and Information Science at Wayne State University.

Saugatuck Center for the Arts announced the election of its board of directors: chair, Thomas Farrington; vice chair, Debra Minton; treasurer, Michael Van Meter; secretary, Laura Godrey; and chair emeritus, Mary Kay Baker.

AWARDS

Couturier Iron Craft Inc. of Comstock Park won a Silver award in Stairs Complete Commercial and a Gold in Art/Sculpture in an international competition sponsored by the National Ornamental & Miscellaneous Metal Association.

The Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning announced Holly Alway, Safe Kids West Michigan coordinator and injury prevention coordinator for Mercy Health Muskegon, has been named Child Passenger Safety Technician of the Year.

Writer’s Digest has awarded its 2015 Grand Prize to first-time fiction author Steve LeBel of Muskegon for his science fiction novel, “The Universe Builders: Bernie and the Putty.”

Associated Builders and Contractors announced Pioneer Construction’s work on the GVSU Mary Idema Pew Library Learning & Information Commons earned a Pyramid Award in the Institutional $25 million-$100 million category of ABC’s Excellence in Construction Awards.

Brian Wolters has joined Bazzani Building Co. as director of business development.

CSM Group of Kalamazoo announced its partnership with plastics manufacturer Fabri-Kal Corp. on a $50 million, 100,000-square-foot design and manufacturing facility in Burley, Idaho.

Vos Glass Inc. announced the retirement of longtime employee Patricia Merryweather. She joined the company in 1982 and has served in a variety of functions, including sales, safety and administration.

The Hope College Alumni Association honored graduates Jeremy Latchaw of Holland, a 2000 graduate, and Matthew Van Der Wende of Amsterdam, a 2005 graduate, with Young Alumni Awards.

Kendall College of Art and Design announced Anita Gilleo has funded an annual award for students to honor her late grandfather’s legacy. The Mathias Alten Memorial Award is available to seniors in good academic standing who demonstrate the qualities and characteristics of its namesake.

The East Grand Rapids Community Foundation has awarded a $1,000 grant to the East Grand Rapids History Room to purchase, preserve and display historical items and presentations to the public at the EGR Community Center.

Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra was selected by the League of American Orchestras to receive a Getty Education and Community Investment grant to develop its Kalamazoo Kids in Tune program.
