The Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts downtown has a new exhibitions curator.

UICA said this month that it has named Heather Duffy to the position.

The role

Duffy will plan exhibitions, while managing the UICA curatorial team and productions designed to engage audiences.

She will also serve as UICA’s representative at various events throughout the country.

UICA is comprised of a “small but passionate team,” and the addition of Duffy will help it focus its “energies and foster our organization’s growth,” said Miranda Kranjniak, executive director, UICA.

Duffy

Duffy joins UICA following a stint as exhibitions manager at ArtPrize.

Kranjniak said Duffy has “extensive experience” with arts and cultural organizations and brings “a rich and impressive" fine art and administrative history to UICA.

“I'm excited to give my undivided attention to curating and producing exhibitions as a connector, collaborator, community builder, advocate and ally for emerging artists, teacher and supporter of students,” Duffy said.

Duffy serves as a member of the Avenue for the Arts Advisory Board and Curatorial Committee.

She is also the founding president of Throwbactivists, a women’s advocacy group.

She is a former member of the Portland Community Arts Council Board.

Duffy holds an M.F.A. in painting and has had her work exhibited nationally.
