Schaafsma Heating & Cooling Inc. has earned the Tier 2 Medal of Excellence Award, and will go on to compete as one of the top 15 dealers in the nation in May. The award recognizes Bryant dealers that do “whatever it takes” to improve their business and is based on customer satisfaction, sales growth and product mix. Behler-Young is Bryant’s exclusive distributor for Michigan and Northwest Ohio.


The Michigan Association of Counties has presented state Rep. Amanda Price, R-Park Township, with its 2015 County Advocate Award.

Davenport University will launch a new master of accountancy degree program for the 2015 fall semester with concentrations in fraud investigation, managerial accounting and internal auditing. DU also announced the appointment of Susan Gunn, interim dean of the College of Urban Education.

The Hope College Alumni Association announced three alumni have received Distinguished Alumni Awards: Douglas Neckers, a 1960 graduate; Jerold Veldman, a 1955 graduate; and Lois Veldman, a 1956 graduate. Hope College also announced three professors are retiring at the end of the school year: John Cox, English; Jack Holmes, political science; and John Shaughnessy, psychology.

Calvin College mathematics professor Jan Koop received a $220,000 Improving Teacher Quality Grant from the State of Michigan to improve the way mathematics is taught in elementary schools.
