A title insurance firm based on the state’s east side has expanded into downtown to meet the needs of a growing commercial real estate client base.

Farmington Hills-based Attorneys Title Agency said last week that it has opened an office in Grand Rapids in the Ledyard Building’s Cornice Suites, at 125 Ottawa Ave. NW.

In the market, the firm also operates offices in Portage and Battle Creek.

The space

ATA is leasing the roughly 2,000-square-foot space from the building's owner, CWD Real Estate Investment in Grand Rapids.

Although the ATA did not conduct extensive renovations on the space, the firm invested in new carpet, paint and interior decorations, according to Chuck Colombo, manager, Attorneys Title Agency Grand Rapids.

“The opening has been a smooth transition for us, and we have been welcomed by the business community and the community as a whole,” Colombo said. “It is a great place to work, live and play.”

Scott Wierda, managing partner of CWD Real Estate Investment, said the addition of ATA to downtown “speaks to the growing demand for their services by the commercial real estate market in West Michigan.”

Services

ATA provides residential and commercial title insurance, title searches and escrow services.

The Grand Rapids office will focus on serving clients in various sectors of the commercial real estate industry.

The commercial department within ATA comprises 17 people who have an average of 20 years of experience.

“We have a couple people in our office right now on a regular basis, but we shift more staff out to the Grand Rapids office when we need to,” Colombo said. “Going forward, I could see a staff of probably six to 10. This office is a dedicated commercial office, so our clients come from all areas of commercial real estate.”

Downtown spot

ATA’s decision to establish an office in downtown Grand Rapids was prompted by wanting to be closer to its growing client base and located in a thriving commercial real estate market, according to Colombo.

“We have been doing business here for a number of years and have clients in the Grand Rapids area,” Colombo said. “We feel our expertise is needed here. It was important for us to have an office downtown and become part of the community. I love being part of this business community. I think it is a great market to be in.”

ATA

Attorneys Title Agency and its subsidiaries operate more than 30 offices throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois.

In 2014, ATA’s commercial department issued more than $1.4 billion in title insurance.
