Law firm ranks as No. 1 bond counsel in state
A law firm with a statewide presence has been recognized for its municipal law and financial practice work in 2014.
Dickinson Wright, which is based in Detroit and operates an office in downtown Grand Rapids, is ranked as the No. 1 “Bond Counsel” in Michigan and No. 4 in the Midwest in dollar volume for municipal bonds issued in calendar year 2014, for which the firm served as bond counsel.
The results were announced in The Bond Buyer, a national publication in the municipal finance arena.
$3B in financings
Dickinson Wright was credited with $3 billion of the Midwest region’s financings, serving as bond counsel, according to Thomson Reuters.
“Our lawyers were involved last year in a number of traditional and challenging innovative financings for a wide variety of state and local clients, and the rankings reflect the trust and confidence our clients have in us,” said Paul Wyzgoski, head of Municipal Law and Finance, Dickinson Wright.
"It is quite an honor for our Municipal Law and Finance practice group to achieve those rankings."
The firm worked on financings for Detroit Water and Sewer refundings, the Detroit general obligation bond settlement, the exit financing and the Detroit Public Lighting Authority project bonds that were issued through the Michigan Finance Authority.
In addition, the firm served as bond counsel to the city of Holland for a large gas-fired generating station and the Michigan Strategic Fund for the arena project for the Detroit Red Wings.
Dickinson Wright said its Municipal Law and Finance practice is comprised of more than 19 lawyers who are “highly experienced.”
The firm's lawyers have served as bond counsel in "virtually every type of public financing transaction."
Dickinson Wright serves as bond counsel to the state of Michigan, its agencies and various local units of government.
Its lawyers also act as underwriter’s counsel, trustee’s counsel, counsel to credit enhancement providers, counsel to purchasers of municipal bonds and borrower’s counsel in connection with all types of tax exempt and tax-credit bond financings.
Dickinson Wright is a general practice business law firm with more than 380 attorneys among more than 40 practice areas.
The firm has thirteen offices, including four more in Michigan: Troy, Ann Arbor, Lansing and Saginaw.
