A grilled cheese franchise is opening its first restaurant in the market this weekend.

On Friday, Tom+Chee will open its Grandville location at the Bucktown shopping center, at 3060 44th St. SW.

The restaurant is in a 2,200-square-foot space in front of Cabela’s.

Tom+Chee’s Grand Rapids-area franchisee is Rachel Caliendo, who has the rights to another two locations in the market.

The first Michigan Tom+Chee opened in Lansing last year.

Restaurant concept

The first Tom+Chee restaurant was opened by Trew Quackenbush and Corey Ward in 2009 in Cincinnati.

With more than 25 grilled cheese sandwiches, three daily tomato soups and specials, the restaurant aims to fill the comfort-food niche.

Quackenbush and Ward pitched the concept on ABC’s “Shark Tank” in May 2013 and have rapidly expanded since.

Tom+Chee serves roughly 200 stores over a 20-state footprint.
