Retailer partners with garden care company
A retailer is getting greener after partnering with a national garden care brand.
Meijer said last month that it has partnered with Marysville, Ohio-based Scotts Miracle-Gro, a national lawn care and garden company, to develop what is being called a pliot Garden Marketplace section in about 27 Meijer stores across the Midwest.
New gardening section
The Garden Marketplace will feature a variety of gardening-centric Meijer and Scotts-MiracleGro products, including items like plant and grass seed packets, lawn food, soils and control products.
The Garden Marketplace will be located in Meijer’s seasonal department.
The retailer is looking for the pilot project to inspire both veteran and novice gardeners.
"We know the average homeowner spends four hours a week caring for their lawn and garden," said Bill Stechebar, divisional merchandise manager for garden/floral, Meijer.
Stechebar added that the partnership gives Meijer the opportunity to expand its Garden Centers and “become an outdoor destination."
"Cut through confusion"
Meijer has been offering Scotts-MiracleGro products for years.
"Confusion is a major barrier to entry into the lawn and garden category for most consumers," said Stephen Markert, VP of channel sales, Scotts Miracle-Gro.
"Planning a garden or taking care of your lawn doesn't have to be complicated. This endeavor with Meijer allows us to cut through the confusion and reach a significant number of lawn and garden enthusiasts.”
Markert added that early results from the pilot stores “have been tremendous.”
Garden Marketplaces in Michigan
In Michigan, the Garden Marketplace will be available at 11 Meijer locations: Knapp's Corner, Norton Shores, Howell, Scio Township, Washington Township, Battle Creek Beckley Road, Portage Shaver Road, Gaines Township, Standale, Lenox Township and Ionia.
