Foundation produces Grand Rapids Kidney Walk
The home of the West Michigan Whitecaps will soon become a battleground in the fight against kidney disease.
The 19th-annual Grand Rapids Kidney Walk by the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan will take place this Sunday at 1 p.m. at Fifth Third Ballpark in Comstock Park, at 4500 West River Dr. NE.
More than 800 walkers are expected to come and walk the White Pines Trails to raise money for the more than 900,000 Michigan residents who are living with chronic kidney disease.
The day’s event will also include free massages, food, giveaways, prizes, a car show, live entertainment, health and wellness screenings and kids activities like face painting and a petting zoo.
About 90 cents of every dollar raised for the foundation goes to Michigan-focused kidney disease programs.
“We’re asking the community to step up and fight kidney disease this year by helping us reach our Grand Rapids Kidney Walk financial goal of $80,000,” said Daniel Carney, president and CEO, National Kidney Foundation of Michigan.
“In return, we are creating a fun-filled atmosphere to celebrate lives and raise money to fight the disease, all while enjoying a day at Fifth Third Ballpark with friends and family. We encourage everyone in the community to join us.”
People can register for free online or on site at noon on the day of the event.
