Steel treatment company invests in facility
A steel treatment company is investing in its local facility to meet current and projected demand from customers in multiple industries.
Hansen-Balk Steel Treating Company in Grand Rapids, which is located at 1230 Monroe Ave. NW, plans to invest $930,000 in real property improvements and about $2.3 million in equipment, according to officials from the city of Grand Rapids.
The company plans to expand its vacuum bays to expand its specialized processing operations to serve the needs of customers in the automotive, aerospace and medical industries.
The company’s facility covers 90,000 square feet, which will be re-configured to provide an additional 12,000 square feet of processing space.
Work on the project has begun and should be completed by the end of July.

Additionally, she said the company “could purchase an additional $2.5 million of equipment at a later date.”
The company has operated in Grand Rapids since 1955 and experienced steady growth over the years.
