The wait is almost over.

West Michigan’s Internet practically exploded with excitement when news broke this February that Trader Joe’s will be opening a 10,000-square-foot grocery store just across from Centerpointe Mall in Kentwood, at 3684 28th St. SE.

Well, the local Internet may need to brace itself for another wave of excitement, because Trader Joe’s announced this afternoon that it plans to open the store on Sept. 25.

Area residents can also expect to find the chain's “Fearless Flyer” newsletter in their mailboxes after the grand opening.

Monrovia, Calif.-based Trader Joe's operates a chain of grocery stores across the U.S. and was founded in 1958, according to

Trader Joe’s said that its stores carry “an extensive array" of domestic and imported foods and beverages: artisan breads, Arabica bean coffees, international frozen entrées, 100-percent juices, fresh crop nuts, deli items, vitamins and more.

The chain sells a number of specialty store brand items.

The lease for the space, which formerly housed a Ruby Tuesday, was signed between representatives of Trader Joe's East and Grand Rapids-based CWD Real Estate Investment.

Triangle Associates in Grand Rapids is building the store.
