East Beltline development signs restaurants

An expanding development along a busy retail corridor on East Beltline is planning for the arrival of five tenants offering a range of dining options.

The Village at Knapp's Crossing in Grand Rapids — which is home to a roughly 50,000-square-foot D&W, located at 2000 E. Beltline Ave. NE, and a roughly 6,000-square-foot P.F. Chang’s — was acquired in January by Bloomfield Hills-based Lormax Stern Development Co., according to the firm’s Co-Owner Chris Brochert.

Ground broke in May to bring the development to a total of about 248,000 square feet when finished.

The development was purchased from “a conglomerate of different sellers,” he said.

Bingham Farms-based Rogvoy Architects is serving as the project’s architect, and Grand Rapids-based Visser Brothers, which is Lormax Stern’s partner in the development, is serving as the project’s contractor.

Private investors are funding the project, and Mercantile Bank is the lender.

Lormax Stern is planning for the opening of five food businesses at the site: BRAVO! Cucina Italiana; Potbelly Sandwich Shop; Pieology Pizzeria; Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt; and Bagger Dave’s.

Brochert said Bagger Dave’s is expected to open this fall. BRAVO! is expected to open this fall or next spring. Pieology, Menchie's and Potbelly are all expected to open next spring.

The entire build out, which will eventually include other retail, should be finished by the end of 2018.

“We think that location is just fabulous,” Brochert said. “It’s in a very high-growth area that’s far enough away from Centerpointe Mall. It’s a separate trade area in need of more retail to satisfy the consumers in that area.”
