The long-time owner of a furniture dealer has sold the business to the former head of a metal parts maker.

Interphase Interiors in Grand Rapids said yesterday that David Faasse, the former chairman, president and CEO of Best Metal Products in Grand Rapids, has acquired the firm from Randy DeBoer, who has owned Interphase since 2000.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Interphase Interiors is West Michigan’s exclusive dealer of Haworth office furniture.

Faasse plans to continue Interphase’s close relationship with Haworth.

DeBoer will continue with Interphase Interiors as a senior advisor during the transitional period, as Faasse adjusts to the role of president.

Grand Rapids-based Charter Capital Partners served as a financial advisor to Interphase.

Finding a “successor”

“When I made the decision to sell Interphase, it was critical that I find a successor who was passionate about the industry, was committed to the Michigan markets we serve and shared the core values that I have built the company around for the past 15 years,” DeBoer said.

“It’s an exciting time for the industry overall, and I believe Interphase has enormous growth potential. David is a proven, hands-on West Michigan business leader with deep roots in the community and a depth of capabilities that make him the perfect choice to lead Interphase.”

Todd James, Haworth’s global VP of sales, said DeBoer and Interphase have been “strong advocates for the Haworth brand” for more than 30 years.

“We are excited about his David’s proven leadership skills and his ideas for the future of the company,” James said. “We look forward to working together.”

Faasse served at Best Metal Products for about 20 years, before selling the company in 2006 to a group of investors led by Milt Kuyers and William Boer.

“The office furniture business is one of the most vibrant and impactful industries in West Michigan, and Interphase and Haworth are both well respected, leading brands in the region,” Faasse said.

“Randy has done an incredible job building Interphase into one of the best Haworth dealerships in the country. I’m really looking forward to working with him and the talented team at Interphase to push the company to the next level.”
