A trio of local speakers, including a man with terminal brain cancer, will share their stories downtown on Friday.

David Wenzel will speak at the special Failure:Lab event at Start Garden in downtown Grand Rapids, at 40 Pearl St. NW.

The event runs from 6-7 p.m., and tickets can be reserved for a suggested minimum donation of $20.

Photographer Terry Johnston and educator Brandy Lovelady Mitchell are the other two speakers at the Failure:Lab event, which showcases the stories of failure behind success stories.

The first 100 guests can claim seats for the speakers, who will be accompanied by local musicians and free drinks.

Wenzel is raising money on Kickstarter to help publish a memoir of his life with cancer. All donations from the event will go to Wenzel’s Kickstarter.

He has spent more than five years with terminal cancer, going through a divorce and an unplanned pregnancy during that time.

Still, he’s found the positives in life.
