A developer has opened up leasing for a downtown apartment building.

616 Development in Grand Rapids recently announced that leasing is available for its latest development in Grand Rapids, 616 Lofts on Monroe, which is in the former Sackner Products Co. building, at 820 Monroe Ave. NW.

Phased move-ins are scheduled for October.

616 hosted an open house at the building last weekend.

Monica Steimle, director of development at 616 Development, said the firm is "really looking forward to sharing" the building with potential residents at its upcoming community events.

She added that 616 is "excited to collaborate with local businesses" and share the multi-use building that will "strengthen the mix of the north Monroe corridor community."

The four story, 156,000-square-foot building is undergoing a roughly $22-million renovation.

The building will feature 40,000 square feet of retail on the first floor, with 85 one and two-bedroom apartments filling up the rest of the building and a rooftop deck overlooking the Grand River.

On-site parking is available for rent.

Essence Restaurant Group also plans to plant its fourth restaurant at 816 Monroe Ave. NW as part of the 616 Lofts on Monroe project.
